ضمایر نامعین آن‌هایی هستند که به یک یا چند شیء، موجود یا مکان نامشخص اشاره می‌کنند. آن‌ها را «نامعین» می‌نامند زیرا دقیقاً شیء، موجود یا مکانی را که به آن اشاره می‌کنند نشان نمی‌دهند.

چند ضمایر مجهول وجود دارد که می‌توان آن‌ها را با هم ترکیب کرد و ضمایر متقابل ساخت.آنها each otherهستند و one another. کلمه reciprocal به معنای حرکت در دو جهت است. مثلاً اگر من موهای تو را شانه بزنم و تو موهای من را شانه بزنی، عمل متقابل است. ما موهای همدیگر را برس می‌کشیم. از ضمایر متقابل استفاده می‌شود تا هنگام صحبت در مورد اینکه چه کسی چه کار کرده است، مجبور نباشیم نام افراد را تکرار کنیم.
